Bill Moon, AIA, Managing Principal at Tryba Architects, is being recognized as Architect of the Year by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Colorado, for his breadth of work, leadership in the industry, and contributions to the local community and to the state of Colorado. AIA Colorado annually celebrates the people and teams who are making a difference in the architecture profession and their communities.
For the last 30 years, Bill has focused on the design, adaptive reuse and redevelopment of structures, systems and the public realm of the contemporary city. He has created inspiring and enduring places that have transformed communities across Colorado—from managing the design team for the new addition and renovation of the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center to leading the historic preservation and adaptive reuse of Denver’s Union Station.
He has guided key civic developments in Denver including the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Building, the César E. Chávez Memorial Building and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. He directed the firm’s role as Lead Design Architect and Architect of Record for important cultural projects including Denver Botanic Gardens, History Colorado Center and the Master Plan for an addition and restoration of the Denver Art Museum’s famed Gio Ponti Building.
Over the last several years, Bill has overseen projects for Google in Boulder and BPX Energy in Denver that have reimagined the corporate campus in Colorado. Set in strong relation to the landscape, these campuses reinforce the connections between people and nature, creating healthier, more sustainable environments that contribute to the vitality of their city.
“As architects we spend an untold amount of time on the design of great structures, detailing every square inch. But I challenge you to also consider the space that surrounds our projects. While our buildings help define the urban fabric, we can and should play a more meaningful role in creating better spaces within the public realm and in becoming more involved with the communities in which we practice.” – Bill Moon, AIA
The AIA Colorado 2019 Design & Honor Awards Gala was held on Friday, September 13 at The Cable Center in Denver. Bill was joined by several members of his family and Tryba Architects colleagues.
