Brent Bartels, AIA develops creative processes that allow for deep investigations of place, resulting in clear and effective formal translations. Brent's studies in the field of Urban and Regional planning influence his ability to consider the interrelation of the building, community, city and end-user in relation to one another with ease and flexibility. With a focus on quality, craft and collaboration, Brent brings creative, rigorous thinking and a willingness to test conventional approaches to developing the built environment. Over his 20+-year career in the Denver area, he has delivered a wide array of project types.
Shannon is passionate about creating purposeful, meaningful places that engage and inspire. She brings nearly two decades of experience in workplace, retail, repositioning and educational design, with a strong focus on client relationships. Her portfolio includes Fort Worth ISD's new headquarters and educational facilities; Irving's Toyota Music Factory; and renovations to Dallas' iconic Reunion Tower, Thanksgiving Tower, and Parkside Tower.
A lifelong Texan with degrees from UT-Arlington and Texas A&M, Shannon is thrilled to be raising a family and working in Fort Worth. She is dedicated to focusing on further enriching and enhancing the region's built environment through partnerships with like-minded organizations and serving at the highest level.
Kathleen leads our Urban Design Studio and is an Urban Designer and Architect with 17 years of national and international practice experience. Her urban design and development efforts focus on balancing transportation, natural resources and sustainable urban growth with the economic demands of the marketplace. Kathleen has led planning, urban design and entitlement efforts for Denver International Airport, the Washington Street Corridor, Fox North, and the Fitzsimons Innovation Community.
Kathleen excels at the resolution of difficult urban issues and her collaborative management skills ensure effective and efficient delivery for a range of large scale and visionary projects. Kathleen’s focus on a strong vision, principle led design and clear communication enables her to effectively build consensus and momentum for complex urban projects involving multiple stakeholder groups.
Emmett has nearly 20 years of experience as an Architect and Project Manager leading teams on complex multi-phase projects such as Colorado Center, Denver Rock Drill, Firestone and Robertson Distillery, and a new high-rise multi-family project in Colorado Springs. He is focused on facilitating the design process through clear communication and technical expertise and possesses a comprehensive knowledge of design technology and systems. Emmett excels in project team leadership, consultant coordination and managing projects through complex entitlements.
Sarah is an Urban Designer and Architect with national experience in master planning, urban design, architecture and project management. She enjoys the challenge of complex projects and the ability of design to transform and create memorable, meaningful places for people to live, work and play. With experience in campus, cultural, transportation and neighborhood planning, Sarah brings a keen understanding of urban sites, sustainability and multi-modal strategies to her projects. A scheduling and management specialist, Sarah excels in helping clients distill and prioritize their project goals during initial programming and planning.
Sarah enjoys being involved in the local design community. She served for two years on the Seattle Planning Commission and is currently a member of the Arapahoe Square Design Advisory Board in Denver. She is actively engaged in the Urban Land Institute both locally and nationally, and was honored with ULI Colorado’s Rising Star Award in 2017.
Tommy leads the Design Communications studio at Tryba. Tommy joined us in 2013 after relocating from New York City where he spent six years with the exhibit design team at Ralph Appelbaum Associates, the world’s largest museum exhibition design firm. An award-winning environmental graphic designer, he develops and implements comprehensive graphic design programs for interpretive exhibits, wayfinding, branding and communication. Tommy’s work at Tryba has transformed our project presentation and delivery methods facilitating an exemplary level of clarity and elegance in our graphic communication. Under Tommy’s leadership, the studio has produced comprehensive branding and marketing strategies for projects such as Fox North, Denver Rock Drill and the Fitzsimons Innovation Campus.
James joined Tryba Architects following nearly two decades of experience in tax, audit, financial management and forecasting for entrepreneurs. James’s skills in market forecasting, cash flow analysis and tax management drive the firm’s fiscal efficiency, stability, and strategic business plan. James financial services experience contributes directly to our business communication strategies and allows the firm to provide a variety of development focused financial tools for clients across the life of a project.
The volatility of real estate values, financial markets and labor and material costs constantly impacts the business of architecture. James’s expertise not only assures the firm’s stability, but also makes a substantial contribution to the client’s bottom line. His expertise is responsible for the firm earning the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business of the Year award, the first time the honor has been awarded to a design firm.
Bill’s role as Managing Principal is foundational to our practice. He joined Tryba in 1990, and leads the management of the firm overseeing business development, project management, staffing and operations. Bill is deeply engaged in the craft of architecture and works alongside project teams to ensure continuity, consistency and quality across our body of work.
Bill is dedicated to the design, adaptive reuse, and redevelopment of structures, systems and the public realm of the modern city. He focuses on the long-term consequences of urban sprawl, resource management and the revitalization of urban neighborhoods. He is highly involved in the growth of cities and sits on the Cherry Creek Design Review Board. Bill also volunteers to aid various local organizations in their efforts to promote smart growth initiatives and the rehabilitation of historic structures.
The Founding Principal of our multi-disciplinary studio, David’s passion for cities directs the work of Tryba Architects. He is involved in each of the firm’s projects and excels at leading talented designers towards solutions that are in the best interest of the client, the community and the project. David’s entrepreneurial spirit directs the firm’s commitment to the development and transformation of urban neighborhoods, buildings, sites and systems into active, human-scaled and successful places.
David possesses a deep understanding of the evolution of cities—past, present and future—and has completed projects across North America. His design is driven by a critical awareness of the social and economic value of place making, a fundamental belief in the integration of architecture and landscape, and a firm and resolute commitment to city building and civic craft.
