Clayworks offers an entirely new concept for Downtown Golden—simultaneously responding to and integrating with the historic Golden context while reflecting the civic legacy and values of the Coors family and their companies. CoorsTek’s global headquarters, currently located a few miles away, will return to the site with a new office building that features an iconic 65-foot tower reminiscent of the company’s former “Silo” industrial building.

The new headquarters will integrate the adaptive reuse of portions of historic buildings dating back to the early 1900s that will create an authentic connection to the heritage of innovation and industry on the site.

Complementing existing institutions such as the Colorado School of Mines and NREL, this new extension of the historic downtown will provide a hub for materials science and innovation, sustainability and technological advancement.

 

The project integrates new structures with adaptive reuse of historic fabric, retaining a cultural memory of place for residents and employees and providing measurable benefits in embodied energy.

Rooted in a Legacy of Innovation

Adaptive reuse is the foundation for Clayworks’ ambitious sustainability program, building on the existing resources already present in the site where possible while simultaneously creating new places that have the same uniquely Golden authenticity.

Sustainability and Wellness

A significant focus on sustainability includes 32.2% reduction in embodied carbon, 100% electrification, and targeted LEED Gold and WELL Gold certification. The project exceeds IECC baseline by 24.8%.
The new CoorsTek headquarters is thoughtfully integrated with the Golden landscape and incorporates a high level of sustainability measures, including adaptive reuse of historic structures, green roofs and terraces, integrated photovoltaic systems, full building electrification and ample glass for maximizing natural daylight and views.
Environmental sustainability, biophilic design, and connections to trails promote health and wellness.
